The St. Chrysostom Lutheran Preachers' Retreat exists as a resource to the ministerium of Lutheran Church-Canada. We receive much training in theology in our seminary years, but not nearly as much emphasis on applying that which we have learned in the art of preaching. Because of the vast amount of material needing to be covered in the seminary curriculum, there are often only 3 or 4 total courses in preaching required to graduate. Yet preaching is one of the chief acts of the pastoral office. In order to build each other up in the art and practice of theology, Pastor Michael Keith initiated this retreat in 2006. The current organizer is Pastor Arron Gust. The retreat itself is open only to members of the ministerium of Lutheran Church-Canada, or church bodies with whom we are in fellowship (e.g. the LCMS) but all are welcome and encouraged to make use of the resources found on this site.
Our prayer is that by joining together in a time of prayer, study, and practical application, we would be better enabled to serve our congregations with the holy, divine Word of God through our preaching, and so hold forth the Law and Gospel as "workmen approved...rightly dividing the Word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)
